Melody Lau

I'm a human beinnnnnngggggg.

Hi, my name is Melody. This page was once written in the third person and it just felt super awkward. Instead, I want you to read this page as if I was talking to you. I will work on an audio book-like button in the future where Morgan Freeman will hopefully read this to you.

I’m a music journalist and Ryerson journalism grad currently based in Toronto, ON.

I’m an online blogger for MUCH (formerly MuchMusic) as well as a regular contributor to Exclaim! Magazine. I also freelance for a number of publications (full list below).

Outside of that, I also serve as the managing editor at Static Zine, a local DIY arts and culture zine.

In 2009, I created a music blog called The Singing Lamb (, but alas, it is no longer active. In its heyday, though, it was home to a staff of writers and photographers who worked tirelessly to cover music in Toronto.

In 2013, I became a juror for both the Polaris Music Prize and the Prism Prize.

In addition, I was also a research assistant for the 2012 Best Music Writing book series (that book was never published) and the Director of Communications at the 2012 SummerWorks Performance Festival.

I run the Toronto Indie Blogger Brunch, a monthly brunch event that brings together local bloggers and photographers.

Frequently Asked Question: What is your real name?
My real name is Melody Lau, not Lamb. Lamb was a childhood nickname that inspired the name of my website, The Singing Lamb. Incidentally, I’m allergic to wool and I don’t eat lamb.
